About 20 kilometers from downtown Lhasa stands Sangphu Monastery, once known as the “Nalanda of Tibet.” Great masters such as Je Tsongkhapa and Milarepa once studied here, making it one of the most important centers of Tibetan learning and practice.

Sangphu Monastery has preserved a vast collection of ancient scriptures and traditional medical formulas. Sangphu Tibetan Incense is crafted in strict accordance with the Four Medical Tantras and the auspicious traditional formulas passed down through Sangphu Monastery.

Each incense stick is entirely handmade by local villagers, under the supervision of Sangphu Monastery. All incense makers come from the surrounding communities—many of them are hearing-impaired artisans or elderly villagers in their sixties and seventies.

Although life in this region is challenging, they continue to cherish life, their homeland, and the sacred culture of Sangphu.
